How To Apply
If you're ready to start the Program in the next summer, first check the Program blog to see whether slots are still available. If you are planning for future years, note that we begin taking applications for a following-summer start around the fourth week of June. Candidate applications received prior to October 15 will be reviewed for priority admission. Applications received after October 15 will be reviewed as space allows.
For details, see our Admissions Requirements and subject-area specific Prerequisites. Also see our Application Timeline.
Step 1: Apply to the UW-Madison Graduate School
Information required at this step includes the following:
Step 2: Content Survey
After your Graduate School application is completed, an email will be sent, inviting you to program network. Based on your subject area, you will be asked to complete a content-domain survey of previous work completed in the subject area in which you are seeking certification.
Applicants may choose one of the four subject areas: English, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Science and Social Studies applicants may choose as many certification areas as they believe they are qualified for.
Step 3: Final decisions
After your application is complete a content area team will review your application and share their recommendation with you and the Graduate School.
If the recommendation is favorable, the UW Graduate School will make a final decision on your application. At this time official transcripts would need to be submitted if the candidate has a degree from an institution other than UWMadison.
Paper official transcripts may be sent to:
- Dept of Curriculum and Instruction, UW-Madison
- 225 North Mills St, Madison, WI 53706
- Attn: Joey Lubasi
If the recommendation is not favorable, a letter will be sent you outlining the concern or issue. When applicable, you may be offered an opportunity to remain on a "wait list," as future spots may be come available.
PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE FIRST APPLICANT REVIEW APPLIES TO APPLICATIONS RECEIVED BY OCTOBER 15TH.
We will review applications after Oct. 15th as space allows.
